Another strong blow to international drug trafficking networks was dealt by the control forces of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, with the seizure of a large quantity of cocaine at the port of Piraeus.

Greek customs authorities seized 46 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a shipping container at the capital’s port of Piraeus, officials said Thursday.

The bust was the result of a joint operation between the Financial Transactions Control Forces (DEOS), in close cooperation with inspectors from the 1st Customs Audit Center (TEK) of Piraeus.

Authorities said the container, which arrived from Ecuador, was flagged following a risk analysis assessment.

During the inspection, officers discovered 40 carefully concealed packages of cocaine with a total weight of 46 kilograms. The illegal shipment is estimated to have generated illicit profits exceeding 1.7 million euros.
